Patricio Guzmán Cárdenas

Patricio Guzmán Cárdenas (Cuenca, January 31, 1965) is a doctor, writer and poet. He has lived in Loja since the age of 14 and works as an anesthesiologist at the Macas General Hospital. His works have been published in different cities of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. His poems cover a wide range of topics, many of which are inspired by his work as an anesthesiologist. He has published 4 books of poetry and a book of stories.

Awards and recognitions

  • He won third place in the Ecuador-Peru Binational Contest in Zamora in 2005.
  • He represented Ecuador in the first Ecuador-Peru Binational Meeting of Journalists, where the Declaration of Jaén was prepared.
  • He has participated in cultural events held in different cities of Peru, where he has obtained recognition for his cultural work. He was a finalist in the VII (7) Latin American Congress of Medical Writers held in Chile in 2010.
  • He was named Universal Ambassador of Culture given at the VII (7) International Meeting of Writers held in Bolivia in 2014 by the American Union of Writers of Mexico, UNESCO, the Government of the Department of Tarija and more.
  • He was an illustrious visitor to the Municipality of Tumbes at the World Ecopoetry Festival in 2017.
  • He is a member of the North American Academy of Modern Literature.

Poem

Bésame

Bésame en el frío de una soledad de lágrima
agitando las vértebras de esta piel huérfana
Bésame mi dolor de sueño viejo y véndeme alucinaciones
de paraíso extraños
Bésame en la distancia que amanece con su neblina de cazador
y hazme arder el viento oscuro de ángel caído.
Bésame con la brisa de una metáfora
en el cadáver de horas transcurridas
que vayan enredándose en miradas de olvido.
Bésame con este tiempo adulterado
en desconsuelos de espantos desojados
y esperemos el café largo, haciendo minutos mudos
en migajas de espera, de cantos de madrugada
Bésame porque tus besos irán desapareciendo
Entre umbrales de versos, riendo su locura de desiertos sin oasis
Bésame con tu último beso
porque nuestros besos serán partículas que algún día de recuerdos
estarán pegándose en vidrios de constelaciones nerviosas
y nadie nos recordará,
ni las garzas de la lluvia desparramándose desnudas
en calles que ya no existirán.
